Driving Evaluations & Lessons

Let the therapists of STRIVE for Independence help you navigate the road ahead!

  • Full Car Evaluation

Already have a valid permit or license? You may be a good fit for an occupational therapy clinical evaluation and a behind-the-wheel evaluation. (2.5 hours)

The clinical portion consists of a review of your medical and driving history, functional performance of everyday tasks, and occupational therapy clinical assessments which are used to evaluate the skills needed for driving (i.e. vision, perception, thinking skills, and physical functioning). The behind-the-wheel portion allows the therapist to assess those same skills in action. After the evaluation, the therapist provides feedback and recommendations regarding your fitness to drive.

A physician's order is required to schedule an evaluation with our team. An order must have the client's name, date of birth, primary diagnosis, and date. The order should state Occupational Therapy (OT) Driver Evaluation and Treatment.

  • Pre-Driving Class

Boost the skills needed for driving, before actually getting behind-the-wheel. This class is available to teens and young adults whose goal is to one day become a driver. We have developed fun group educational activities aimed to improve these pre-driving skills. Young people will leave the course with educational home programs to continue to build those skills even after class is over. Next class offered will be Wednesdays in July (10, 17, 24, 31) from 4-5pm.
